Joseph Richardson
Litchfield, Kentucky
September 26, 1913
A postcard was peddled door to door of this horrific scene in
Litchfield, Kentucky. Richardson was removed from the town
jail at 12:00 am and lynched on the public square. His alleged crime was an
assault on an eleven-year-old girl (white) named Ree Goff. The victim was
recognized as the town drunk who had "merely stumbled into the child
and not even torn her dress."
