George and Ed Silshee
Scott, Kansas
January 20, 1900
The Missourians, also known under alias' were shackled and behind bars,
accused of the murder of a young farm hand and the attempted murder of the
deputy sheriff. In the dead of night, in fort Scott, Kansas, a mob
broke the shackled pair out of jail and hung them in nearby trees. Spectators
which included women and children climbed trees and rooftops to get a good
view. The word of the lynching spread and the community came to
view the corpses until the next day. The men's necks were not broken, they had actually died from strangulation.
