In Poplarville, Mississippi, an all white jury pronounced Mr. Singleton guilty of murder. He received a life sentence. The white population in Poplarville was disappointed and that night, a mob of about a hundred men took Mr. Singleton from the jail, and hung him from a tree in the cemetery.
